Fuel Economy: 10.5 km/litre (9.5 L/100 km), RON95, Mileage: 2,000 km/month
    Excellent build quality from factory
Absolutely no rattles or squeaks can be heard. Outstanding here.
Good suspension that soaks up almost every bump and pot hole unlike other makes where the car shatters.
Good sound insulation - close to a Lexus or merc
The 2.0 engine and 4 speed auto is actually more than sufficient unless you want to drive above 170 km/h .
Coming from a 5 speed gearbox, you will not notice a downside difference in this 4 speeder unless you just love complaining on the technology. Even fuel economy is the same as my earlier civic 2.0 5 speeder. But frankly this older tech will be a blessing in disguise in the longer term when comes to repair and replacement.
One of the best buys in the market for quite and comfort with good re-sale value and cheap maintenance as well.
The Toyota fitted DVD AVN player does not have a concealed USB. For a car of this price, dislike seeing the USB stick sticking out of the dash. Looks cheap.
The stock tyres, Bridgestone Turanza ES33 suspected to be a defective batch as it had bad humming noises at certain speeds. After spending RM and changing them, it's a beauty...absolutely no noise at all. The tyre shop guy told me 2 other Camry owners also had the same issue. Hope that Toyota gets this message - a lovely car spoilt by poor choice of OEM tyres.
To Improve
The current old engine and 4 speed auto, although more than sufficient but still needs a refresher since competitors are doing much better at this and market perception on Toyota technology.
Could do with more than 2 airbags
Yes, I would recommend this car

Bought new, Owned for 3 Years
Fuel Economy: 10.5 km/litre (9.5 L/100 km), RON95, Mileage: 1,400 km/month
I have owned previous generations of Camry before (XV30 2.0E, XV40 2.0G). All of which including my current unit are company cars, which I do not have any power to choose what car I will get.
The unit I currently own is the Camry XV50 (2012) 2.0G. (without VSC & keyless start).

    - Power is adequate enough for daily drive (2.5V model should be way better in terms of power)
    - Handling is average at best as this is a comfort biased family sedan.
    - Comfort and interior space is where the Camry excels. Great for long distance cruises. One of the most comfortable family sedans money can buy, plus rear legroom is massive especially when compared to some of it's rivals (I'm looking at you, Mazda6)
    - NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) of the Camry is very good. Wind noise, tyre noise and engine noise are all kept at a minimum even above legal speed limits.
    - As with all Toyotas, reliability and build quality is top notch.
    - Toyota's service is still one of the best in the business
    - Although the gearbox is smooth, the outdated 4 speeder really could do with an extra gear or two which would be better for highway cruising. Same feeling 4 speed gearbox since the first Camry that I have owned, seriously Toyota? Time for something new, please.
    - Same old ancient 2.0 engine as before. Engine feels a tad bit gutless.
    - The exterior design for the XV40 was nice, but what happened to the design of the XV50? Looks dated and boring!
    - All the fake wood trims around the cabin looks really gaudy. Piano black trims or darker shade of colour used would be better.
    - Fuel efficiency is very average. Could be because of the car's heavy body and somewhat lack of power.
    - Pricing for the Camry is ridiculous. Just look at the competition. Even the once greedy Honda too has moved on to provide more value for their products.
    - Last but definitely not least, SAFETY. Come on UMW Malaysia, would it really hurt you so much to at least care about your valuable customers safety? For a car of this price, this is just ludicrous. You only decided to add VSC after so much criticism.
To Improve
- A fresh new engine and gearbox, please
- What's your excuse for the lack of safety kit, UMW? Even a Kia Picanto which costs only a fraction of the price of a Camry has 6 Airbags and VSC.

After all, the main reason why people buy Toyotas are because of the resale value and reliability, which undeniably is what you will be getting with this Camry. Despite so much criticism, the Camry will still sell like hot cakes. If only Malaysians paid more attention to their own safety...

    Toyota Camry 2.0G 2012 (ACV 51) Registered July 13, 2012

This was the first batch of the current model Camry. This model came without VSC and keyless start function.

My review is going to be a comparison of this car and my previous ride, the Eight Generation Honda Accord (Mine was the 2009 model)

    Ride & Handling
The ride and handling is a lot better than the previous generation (ACV 40), the car feels planted when you take turns at over 120km / hour with no understeer.

    Noise / Vibration.
The engine noise does not intrude to the cabin.
The wind noise does not intrude to the cabin.

    Seating Comfort.
The driver’s seat is comfortable with lumbar support and all round electric control.
The passenger seat can be adjusted using electric control at the conventional area (left hand side, below seat) and also at the shoulder area on the right hand side.

This feature is helpful as the driver can adjust the seat in the event he has an elderly passenger or a kid seating at the front passenger seat.

The comments from my passengers are that the rear seats are very comfortable.

    Maintenance Cost
The Toyota service Centre is very professional and they do not force you to take unnecessary additional items during servicing.

The ATF oil change interval is longer at 80,000 km for first change and at every 40,000km interval thereafter.
(The Honde SC recommends us to change ATF at every 20,000km which I think was not right and I used to change at every 40,000 km on my Gen 8 Accord).

The brake linings were never changed in my entire usage (had clocked 91,000 km before selling it on 28.05.2014) and they were still good.

Honda Gen 8 – had replaced the Brake Disc under warranty twice for brake judder and the brake linings were changed three times during my usage. I had clocked 125,000km before I sold the car.

Brake and related maintenance is definitely cheaper in the Camry compared to Accord.

Overall Camry has a low maintenance regime with professional and friendly Service Centre team.
    Sound System
The standard CD Player and speaker system is not the best and feels cheap in a D segment car. My previous 8th Gen Accord had a better sound system.

    Noise / Vibration.
There was a vibration noise at the D panel area, which Toyota SC could not solve.

    Engine
The car uses the same old tested engine, it works fine but does not give you any excitement.
To Improve
Toyota should seriously consider updating the engine to a 'brand new engine'.

The Dashboard design should be revamped.

The body styling should be updated.

2.5V (2014)
Bought new, Owned for 5 Years
Fuel Economy: 9.0 km/litre (11.1 L/100 km), RON95, Mileage: 1,000 km/month
(this is based on the Mk6 XV40 2.4V, could not find that on the site, but should be an indication of what to expect of the 2.5V XV50)

Really reliable engine and transmission. Never needed anything more than an oil change and regular maintenance throughout the 90000km travelled in it. Smooth shifting 5 speed auto, and the 2.4 engine is OK.

Build quality is almost perfect. Really good seats, but not the best (that goes to the Nissan Teana). But significantly better quality interior than the Accord of the same time. Has a flat rear floor, so you don't have a transmission tunnel, which frees up a lot of space in the rear. 3 people can sit in comfort, though headroom may not be the best in class.

Very comfortable suspension, irons out the lumps and bumps in the road really well. Relatively planted (doesn't feel floaty at national highway limits, but beyond that it tends to wander a bit).

UMW Toyota's after sales is the best in the business. Warranty claims were handled promptly, service was really outstanding from the time I ordered the car, the delivery experience, to the service in the service centres too. They really take care of the customers.
Specifications are really pathetic. No side curtain airbags on all models. Stability control which is standard on the Accord is only on the 2.4V (XV40) and for now, the current model only gets it on the 2.0G, 2.0GX and 2.5V. This is a very important feature, which cars 30% of the price (i.e. Picanto) have it as standard.

While the engine and gearbox is good, the other parts are not to say trouble free. Suspension kept leaking and squeaking about, replaced thrice (2 times under warranty) yet still never solved. Satnav is a cost option, but I am not sure how durable it is, as the original head unit started to give trouble after 3 years.

There a lots of hard plastic and garish wood trim that looks very fake. Aluminium trim or a piano black trim would probably have looked nicer.

It is is a dull to drive to car, don't expect it to drive like the Accord, but it is a good cruiser though. Pickup from the engine is OK, but it is noisy when you try to run it more than 4000 rpm especially when overtaking.

Fuel consumption is average only, compared to the VW Passat, Ford Mondeo or the Peugeot 508 1.6THP as it doesn't have a turbocharger. Road tax is hefty too, considering the continental makes do cut your road tax a lot, and give better economy while delivering the same(or better) power.

It is quite expensive, considering you don't really get THAT much for your money, you actually get better value in the Accord or the Mazda 6. Not as stylish as the Mazda 6 or Volkswagen Passat.
To Improve
Improve the pricing and specification list of the car, boost the safety and make them as standard features. Safety is a necessity, not a luxury. Until that is addressed, it is hard to recommend this car.
No, I would not recommend this car
